Briefly about the artist himself:
Leszek Możdżer made a mental and stylistic revolution in Polish jazz that no other jazzman had experienced before. Difficult jazz phrases, complex improvisations, melody of standards and subtlety of compositions were dressed in the framework of specific jazz, which - not trying to be exuberant towards the audience, commercial and hit - became the "jazz of Leszek Możdżer", pulsating with expression. Jazz imagination, an interesting idea of improvisation, the subtlety of Chopin etudes and mazurkas, "comedy" inspirations create a new color in his music for jazz piano chamber music.
It is one of the most interesting phenomena of Polish jazz in recent decades. Initially associated with the "yass" band Miłość. Then he appeared in many jazz configurations: from the bands of Emil Kowalski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Tomasz Stańko, Buddy de Franco, David Friesen, Archie Shepp, Michał Urbaniak, Adam Pierończyk, Arthur Blyth. The pianist's extensive discography includes over one hundred albums realized as his own projects or in collaboration with outstanding artists. He records and gives concerts with David Gilmour, Nana Vasconcelos, Marcus Miller, John Scofield, Tan Dun, Pat Metheny. Concerts, recordings and collaboration with the composer Zbigniew Preisner brought the pianist enormous popularity and recognition. Joint projects, such as "Requiem for my Friend" and "10 Easy Pieces for Piano Solo" turned out to be outstanding artistic events.
The album "Impressions On Chopin" (recorded in 1999) has already entered a peculiar canon of recordings inspired by the works of the genius Polish composer. Leszek Możdżer also collaborates with Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (recordings for the Oscar-winning soundtrack to the film "Dreamer" and the album "Kaczmarek by Możdżer") as well as he composes music for film and theater. The pianist finds himself best in solo projects and the author's trio with Lars Danielsson and Zohar Fresco (the album "The Time" recorded in 2005 reached the status of a Diamond Record, "Between Us And The Light" (2006), "Live" (2007), "Polska "(2013) reached the status of Double Platinum). In 2017, he recorded an album with Holland Baroque entitled Earth Particles. He is also the artistic director of two festivals (Jazz nad Odrą and Enter Music Festival).
For the music to the film by Maciej Pieprzyca entitled: "Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosza", Leszek Możdżer received the award in the Best Music category at the 44 Film Festival in Gdynia, the Eagles Film Award 2020, the award for the best Polish Soundtrack of the Year 2019 awarded by 50 experts music and film films as part of the Film Music Festival in Krakow, the award of the 9th Film Festival Grand Prix Komeda and the Fryderyk award in the Album of the Year category - Illustrative Music. The sound track was also awarded with the following prizes: MocArty RMF Classic, Olśienia Onetu, Empik Bestsellers nomination and the Special Award of the 34th edition of the Tarnów Film Award.
Leszek Możdżer reveals himself as the creator of a new style in jazz music, where the sound and atmosphere are built with an impression, mood and unique original performance style. Perhaps that is why the pianist is accepted as an eloquent creator of jazz of the young generation: a sophisticated artistic proposition, composed of the musical fascinations and discoveries of Leszek Możdżer - the most popular jazz musician in Poland today.
